Charly Musonda Jr. had an impressive season for Chelsea's youth sides, and those performances haven't gone un-noticed around Europe. Reports in Belgium today are suggesting that Musonda is a target of AS Monaco, who would like to take the Belgian midfielder on loan next season.
Musonda is clearly someone the Chelsea coaching staff thinks highly of, as they extended the youngster's contract in March. The 18-year old is now under contract at Stamford Bridge until the end of the 2018/19 season.
It will be interesting to see what the Blues do in this case, as Musonda has now spent three seasons in the Cobham setup, so will qualify as both homegrown and club-trained when (if) he breaks into the first team. With that in mind, a loan to a continental club could make a lot of sense, especially if the coaching staff wants to free up minutes at the U21 level for other youngsters.
At the moment, Monaco sit third in Ligue 1, meaning they'd be playing a Champions League qualifier in August. The club is almost certain to qualify for some form of European football next season.
