Oriol Romeu's future is once again up in the air. The one certainty seems to be that he will not be returning to VfB Stuttgart next season, either on loan or on a permanent contract. Despite words throughout the season from both club and player about potentially being able to work something out, if Romeu's Instagram post from yesterday is any indication, a return to the Bundesliga side is not on the cards. Romeu of course had also spoken of trying to still make the grade at Chelsea, too.
Putting his caption through Google Translate, we get:
This Saturday we put an end to the season, a campaign with good times and not so good, joy, sadness, but mostly with the mission accomplished. We spent weeks in which suffered a lot, but it has been shown once again that a team working towards the same path and together can get everything he wants. When I say together, I mean players, employees and fans. The latter wanted to emphasize above any reason. Surely I have never seen such dedicated and willing to give everything for his team swollen. I doubt I ever find someone better than you, and I apologize suffering that you have been through and especially thank you for the continued support that we have given, it is exemplary. Still I do not know where I will play next season but what I do know is that I left at VfB and the city of Stuttgart a piece of my heart. Thanks for teaching me so many things and never cambiéis, I'm sure next season will be VfB where he deserves for quality and history. Are great, keep it up! This is the way!
Romeu was central, both literally and figuratively to Stuttgart's 2014-15 campaign that saw them not ensure Bundesliga survival until the very last matchday, and they had to win their last three just to cross the finish line. The 23-year-old central midfielder started 20 times in the league, making 28 total appearances. His influence waned in the second half of the season, and a hamstring injury did not help matters either, but his time in Germany probably should still be considered successful.
Now it's time for the next step. Whatever that may be.
