Mourinho expects a busy summer ... on the beach

Silly Season? More like Sunny Season!

Listening to managers around the league speak this weekend, at least one common theme emerges:  they're all expecting Manchester United to spend big and spend often this summer.  Memphis Depay is just the tip of the iceberg.  Other teams may join the feeding frenzy (or, as Mourinho called it, a transfer bubble that may lead to a 'Wall Street collapse'), but it's United who are leading the way.

Having essentially walked the league, especially in the second half of the season, Mourinho isn't too concerned.  There are no glaring holes in the squad.  There are obvious places where we can improve (depending on how much we're willing to spend), but there's no absolute need.  It's not that we're complacent — at least that's not the general vibe I'm getting — it's just that we have the foundation in place already.

"We don't need dramatic changes. We have to be loyal to our players. What other clubs are going to do is not going to affect our direction. I like my squad very, very much. It's a young squad, with space to improve, and as I was saying before I am in a different position from last season, because then I was more than keen for my club to sell some players. In this moment I am very, very happy to keep my players."

"The base last year was to sell some to buy some, and the base this season is to keep my squad."

That being said, Jose Mourinho still expects a busy summer ... on the beach.

"I expect to be busy walking from my towel in the sand to the water, swim a little bit and be back in the sun again."

Sounds like a most excellent plan, boss.  Just don't forget the sunscreen.  And that phone call to Paul Pogba before you get on the plane.  Thanks bunches!
