Nemanja Matic set to sign new Chelsea deal, according to reports

The Express are running an 'exclusive' story that Nemanja Matic and Chelsea have reached an agreement over a contract extension that will be signed in the next few days. This is probably a great time to point out that The Express is usually rubbish, but as this story would at least be logical and people are talking about it, we decided to take the time to note it.

The less-than-trustworthy paper claims that Matic is set to get a bump to 93,000 per week, a significant jump from his current 60,000 per week wage. The new deal would also keep the player at Stamford Bridge for one year longer than his previous deal did, until the end of the 2019/20 season.

Matic has certainly done enough to earn a new deal, and given that he's still relatively young, there's little reason to be worried about his performance dropping off significantly before the new agreement expires. Here's hoping The Express isn't just making this one up.
