Mourinho wants Cech to stay, will only let him go for 'huge money'

This is Mourinho's public appeal.  Perhaps the first of many.  Not quite a love letter, but more of a note passed from classmate to classmate, read aloud at every handoff until it reaches Petr Čech.  Yes, there are two squares to pick from, but you don't have to do it just yet.  The yes/no can wait until the summer.  Let's not be hasty about this.  Will you go to the League Cup Final dance with me?  Let's talk afterwards.

"I don't think Petr is a guy to be persuaded. He doesn't let anyone persuade him. He will make his decision and, when he makes that decision, I think he's very mature making what he feels is the best decision for him and his future."

"I will just wait, wishing his decision is to stay. That's my desire. I would like him very, very much to stay."

Sitting, waiting, wishing ... hoping...  Please say yes?  I promise, I'm not letting you go easy.  I've got my boombox and my giant flashcards ready.

"But I don't waste my time trying to persuade him because it's just his decision."

"If he tells me he wants to leave I will tell him my opinion, that he is one of the three best goalkeepers in the world, so huge money."

-Jose Mourinho; source: Get West London

While I think Mourinho talks a bit of tough love there at the end, if push does come to shove, he will let Čech go just as he let Mata, David Luiz, Lukaku, De Bruyne, and Schürrle go.  Even though Čech means more to this club than those five combined.  Especially because Čech means more to this club than those five combined.  The people in charge of the money side of things will make sure we get proper compensation, just as they did with those guys.

We've known all along that this decision will rest with Petr and Petr alone.  He's in charge of his own future.  If we want him to stay, we have to hope he's truly happy as a backup.  (Probably not.)  If he's to go, hopefully he ends up somewhere nice and sends us a postcard or a tweet every once in a while.
