It's Ruben Loftus-Cheek week at We Ain't Got No History, and Jose Mourinho's decided to add to the fun during the press conference today. Asked to bend his mind to predicting just what the squad will look like next season -- and, specifically, where the young midfielder might end up -- the manager reiterated his belief that he'll be in contention for a spot in the first team:
Jose: 'Next season Ruben Loftus-Cheek will be competing for a first team position. At the moment we are protecting him.' #CFC— Chelsea FC (@ChelseaFC) March 20, 2015
The sort of role Mourinho envisions for Loftus-Cheek remains unclear, and he's obviously not going to commit himself to anything with an entire offseason of planning to worry about first. But what's coming through loud and strong is that the 19-year-old is extremely well thought of at Stamford Bridge. Perhaps the club is nearly as excited about him as some of the fans?
