Mohamed Salah failed to score on Thursday, though that has not stopped his legend from growing a bit more at Fiorentina. His third straight game without a goal but it was not for a lack of trying or opportunities; he hit the woodwork twice. Here's one of those two instances.
The cynic in me looks at that, and says hey, that's the Salah we all know from his limited time at Chelsea. Speed to burn, skills to entice, and a final ball to shake your head at. All hype, no end product. But that's harsh considering Salah's current form, one that's seen him become an instant Fiorentina fan-favorite with 6 goals, 2 assists, and countless plaudits since his loan move in January. After barely two months, it almost looks like a foregone conclusion that he will retire as some Florentine deity, enshrined alongside the likes of Batistuta, Di Livio, Rui Costa, and Giancarlo Antognoni. Almost.

Incidentally, the team Salah helped put to the sword in the Europa League Round of 16 match-up, AS Roma, were apparently considering a move for his services in the last transfer window as well. Their director was none too happy with himself now for not pulling that trigger then.
"Salah? He is a player to regret. It's another mistake that I've committed."

Roma manager Rudi Garcia did not comment on what could've been, but his opposite number, Vincenzo Montella was more than happy to fill the space.
"We already knew Salah's characteristics, but honestly I didn't expect him to be that decisive for us and have such a fast impact in Italian football."
"He [Salah] is one of the fastest players I've ever seen, perhaps Messi is the only player faster than him with the ball."
