Jose Mourinho was in fine form for Friday's press conference, firing off stinging one-liners at pundits, ex-players, and journalists, while also philosophizing deeply about the nature of envy and presumably the meaning of our lives as tiny specks of dust suspended on a sunbeam.

At some point, he did field a few decent questions and got to talk about our ambitions for the rest of the season.  Some outlets (NBC Sports, for example) have reported these as some sort of promise made by Mourinho that we'll win the Premier League, but while the Chelsea manager did in fact utter that combination of words, he simply meant that he has confidence in the same squad that won the League Cup to also be able to deliver us the Premier League title.

"I like my players and I trust them when we win or lose. I support my players and I am with them. All we can do now for ourselves and our club is win the Premier League. It's only one competition for us now. Our situation is good, everyone would love to be in our position."

Following Wednesday disappointing result, "lowest point in terms of performance" is how Jose termed it, and following his own post-match comments that seemed to place much of the blame (rightly or wrongly) on the players' form and confidence rather than the manager's tactics, Mourinho has doubled down on the defensive fortifications around his squad.

"It's always my responsibility. Always. The people that lost, who were out of the Champions League last Wednesday, are the same people who have been top of the Premier League from day one. The same people who won the Capital One Cup. The same people that is going to win the Premier League. We are exactly the same people."

Speaking of defensive fortifications...

"I had a meeting with the players, I'm working for the future. I don't have to share with you."

[...]

"In the last four games we had two clean sheets and we conceded three goals, the three goals were individual headers in corners, one against Burnley and two against PSG. We know that. But, obviously, we work [to fix that]."

[...]

"...our future is try to win the Premier League and, if we do that, a season with a Premier League and a Capital One Cup is a brilliant season."
