On Tuesday, Chelsea promoted a pair of academy products to Jose Mourinho's first team. Both Isaiah Brown and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have been standouts with the U21 side this season, and both were on the Chelsea bench for Saturday's draw against Manchester City. The pair will now train with the first team on a full time basis, though it's likely they still stay sharp by playing U21 contests.
Loftus-Cheek has been on the first team radar for a while now, and made his debut earlier this season against Sporting Lisbon. He also made a very late cameo on Saturday, being substituded on in what was likely nothing more than a time wasting measure.
Brown has made two appearances on the Chelsea bench, but has yet to debut for the club. It's likely he'll have a few opportunities though, as the departures of Mohamed Salah and Andre Schurrle leave Mourinho somewhat light on options for the wings.
The pair join youngsters Jamal Blackman, Lewis Baker, Andreas Christensen, and Nathaniel Ake as academy products who have been working with the first team at some point this seasons, though Blackman spent some time away and Lewis Baker is currently at Sheffield Wednesday. With any luck, Chelsea will wrap the Premier League title up very, very early, so that there are a few low pressure games toward the end of the season where we can get a longer look at a few of the kids.
