Welcome to Transfer Deadline Day, or as they call it at Sky Sports, Christmas and every holiday and birthday ever combined!
Should all of the most rumored rumors play out as expected, we will be looking at a fair amount of activity on the final day of the January transfer window. Juan Cuadrado was already in London (as a spectator) for our game on Saturday, so presumably the only hold-up there is administrative. Or perhaps we're waiting for the Wolfsburg checks to clear. The latest on that front, if BILD are to be believed, is that Chelsea have managed to negotiate the fee up to €32m (not including agents' fees), while André himself is set to earn €6m/year (plus bonuses). Add all that together and you arrive at a rather spectacular financial hit facing the German club.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah is still expected to help compensate for Cuadrado's loss in Florence. His loan move is supposedly held up by some visa issues.
A fairly major question, I suppose, is who else comes in to help flesh out the Chelsea squad once more. With two set to depart and only one coming in, we should have a spot open. Will we hand those minutes -- probably not a significant amount, in fairness -- to a young player like Izzy Brown of Ruben Loftus-Cheek? Do we bring in somebody else? There are rumors of an Enner Valencia kind out there to that effect, for example.
One would suspect that there will be some last minute loan moves as well. Perhaps a young future prospect signing as well? We always seem to get at least one of those. Stay tuned.
