Lukaku: I want to leave Everton for a club like Chelsea

Oh Romelu. The loveable-when-he-was-a-shy-teenager striker had managed to get himself thoroughly imprinted on the hearts and minds of Everton after a successful, goal-happy loan last season and then a big-money switch from Chelsea. Meanwhile he contrived to drain the collective goodwill of the Stamford Bridge faithful by whining hard about his competition at striker, as though he had the right to be the Blues' centre forward without doing any work.

*A right that, as we all know, fell to Fernando Torres.

But the Belgian's form has collapsed this year and he seems to have somehow gone backwards in terms of technique. Poor performances will take the shine off any player, but Lukaku just needed to avoid sticking his foot in his mouth to stay in the Toffees good graces and oh no what have you done Romelu:

It was brilliant to play at Chelsea and I had a good reception. They know I'm a good player but that I want to develop so I can eventually get back to playing for a club like Chelsea. I don't have a secret ambition to rejoin — there are other clubs in the world. I just want to grow as a player and eventually arrive at a top club again.

Everton are in the midst of a crushingly bad campaign, and they just suffered a heartbreaking defeat to Chelsea. Then their star young striker, who missed two great chances to score and had an awful game overall, says something like that? Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Ha.

If Lukaku wanted to re-endear himself to me he couldn't have picked a better way of doing it than not scoring against us and winding up his current fans.
