Well, somebody's lying. Or making up things. Or both? Ah, the wonders of football media.
The (proverbial) ink hadn't yet dried on post-match reports carrying Jose Mourinho's words about not asking for new players in the January transfer window when outlets like the Mirror were back at it already.
Chelsea have made Antoine Griezmann their number one target for the January transfer window. The 24-year-old France international frontman is valued at £25-million-plus by his Spanish club, Atletico Madrid.
£25m? That seems a bit low.
Mourinho is also monitoring the situation with Saido Berahino of West Bromwich Albion. The 22-year-old was the subject of an unseemly tussle between Spurs and Albion in the summer when an agreement could not be reached over how a £22 million fee would be paid. Spurs are likely to go back for him next month but will find Chelsea keen competitors for Berahino.
£22m? That seems a bit high.
And I doubt Mourinho's personally monitoring anything other than how to mould this ragtag bunch of former winners back into something that resembles a quality footballing side.
Neither the Griezmann nor the Berahino links are new of course. But neither is the claim that we will not be active in the January transfer window. Can't have both of those true at the same time, which probably will mean that, just like in the summer, we'll panic buy some mediocre scrubs in the final few days. Then again, maybe one of those guy will be capable of getting onto the end of a cross or a cutback.
