Chelsea academy star assigned squad number, hints at first-team debut

UPDATE: Apparently it's a repost of a picture from the summer, when Colkett took part in the post-season tour.  Never mind.  False alarm.  As you were.  No prospects for youth prospects, etc, etc, etc.

Not sure how excited we should get, given Guus Hiddink's reluctance to use the youth despite his supposed "mandate" from up on high to use the youth, but Chelsea academy star Charlie Colkett has posted a Chelsea first-team shirt (see golden Premier League badge) with the #41 on it on his Instagram account with some intriguing hashtags like "#debut".

Debut!  Hashtag exciting!

If you're unfamiliar with classy midfield man Colkett, read this profile from our own Joe Tweeds from earlier this year.  That should get your levels of excitement to the proper levels as far as the 19-year-old's future is concerned.

Of course we're all familiar with Chelsea's struggles to integrate some of the most promising youth in England into the first-team, so even if Colkett gets an appearance or a spot on the bench, it's no guarantee that he won't get lost in the quagmire of the loan system or get the Loftus-Cheek treatment of lots of talk but very limited opportunities.

Still, congrats to Charlie for this accomplishment, for all his successes this past season (including an FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League double), and the bright future ahead of him.
