Chelsea loanee wins Borussia Monchengladbach award

One of the biggest, if not the biggest success of the loan season so far has been young Andreas Christensen over at Borussia Monchengladbach in Germany.  While also capable at right back, Christensen has become first-choice at his natural center back position, alongside former Atletico man Alvaro Dominguez, as Gladbach turned around their disastrous start to the league season.  The Chelsea loanee has started 8 straight league matches (7 wins, 7 goals conceded total) and 3 straight Champions League matches (0 wins, 3 goals conceded), which included an away trip to Manchester City and two tests against Juventus.

Christensen has been gathering plenty of plaudits during this run; those have now culminated in him being named Gladbach's player of the month for October.  Congrats!

When we envision a player gaining first-team experience on loan, this is exactly what we're hoping for every time.  Christensen's place in the team wasn't assured from the get-go -- he didn't start for a few games after the season opening 4-0 demolition by BVB -- but the 19-year-old has grabbed his opportunity when it arrived again with both hands and is quickly making a name for himself.  He's just a few months into his two-year loan to the Bundesliga side; at this rate, he might just become the next Thibaut Courtois in terms of coming back as a player ready to command serious minutes at Chelsea.
