Sources deny Chelsea talks with Bayer Leverkusen over rumoured striker move

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

Two days ago, rumours linking Mexican striker Javier 'Chicharito' Hernández to a Chelsea move in January emerged, claiming that the former Manchester United striker was on the Blues' sights as an answer to our lack of goals upfront. But now, sources close to his current club Bayer Leverkusen have denied any sort of formal approach from the Blues in regards to a possible transfer. It is also believed that because they're not in the business of making silly decisions, Leverkusen are keen on keeping Hernández for the foreseeable future due to his stellar form and boatload of goals he's already scored for his new club.

That Leverkusen have come out to deny an approach could indicate that they're aware of the battle they might face to fend off suitors for Chicharito, who's perhaps the last true poacher left playing at an elite level in the modern game.  It might even indicate that there is true interest from Chelsea in exploring this possible transfer.  But above all, it shows that Silly Season never ends completely, especially when it comes to English (or Spanish or Italian or basically any and all) tabloids.  Things will only get worse from here.

One thing's for sure though, with or without Chicharito (or Higuain or whoever else we may get linked to), we still need our strikers back on good form this season.
