It's taken a bit longer than anticipated, but it looks like Chelsea are finally set to announce a new backup goalkeeper to help cover for the next couple months while Thibaut Courtois recovers from knee surgery.
Marco Amelia, who had been out of contract since the end of last season, was spotted sitting behind the Chelsea bench during last weekend's home loss to Southampton. Manager Jose Mourinho had also confirmed that the 33-year-old was on trial with the club and training with the rest of the goalkeepers and coaches the week prior. But for whatever reason, the final details of the contract and registration had not been worked out until today.
That's the Instagram account of Federico Pastorello, who is Marco Amelia's agent. The two of them are about to hit the town and "celebrate the contract with Chelsea FC" in style. All black, everyday. Can't go wrong with that!
The official announcement should be forthcoming very soon.
