Diego Costa's rib injury was severe enough to require a hospital visit; status for Liverpool match unknown

Stoke City (Rugby) Football Club were on top of their game today, managing to bruise and batter a bunch of Chelsea players almost en passant. While Phil Bardsley did get sent off at the end of regulation for just the third yellow picked up by Stoke, it's still a mystery how Ryan Shawcross and, especially Charlie Adam made it through without a single booking.  I mean, just take a look at this.

Willian managed to soldier on, but Diego Costa was not quite so lucky.  After being the meat in a Ryan Shawcross and Charlie Adam sandwich, with the latter delivering a textbook ice hockey hipcheck, Costa was forced off in the 33rd minute and subsequentely taken to hospital.

"[Costa] is in the hospital -- I don't know [what happened to him].

"I think he punched himself."

On a sidenote, Mourinho was totally making fun of the media with the second comment.  Metro have already taken the bait.  Watch:

Obviously, we still don't know much at all regarding the actual severity of the injury, but requiring a hospital visit doesn't exactly speak highly of Diego's prospects of making the Liverpool match this weekend.

Should he be unable to go, at least Loïc Rémy seems to have recovered just in time and even managed to score on Tuesday; hopefully he can build on that confidence-booster should he be called upon to lead the line.
