International round-up: Eden Hazard scores as Belgium book their place at Euro 2016

Let's get the bad news out of the way.  Eden Hazard was not very good today.  Again.  Still.

He did score, from the penalty spot to restore Belgium's 2-goal lead early in the second half, which basically put this tie to bed, but then he missed a second penalty just before getting the hook in the 78th minute.  And other than the converted penalty kick and a couple decent runs, he was worryingly average once again, as someone in the comments put it quite succinctly.  Even though he was once again entrusted with the captain's armband as Kompany missed out through injury.  While Hazard has never quite been able to reproduce his club form for his country, the timing of this latest subpar performance certainly isn't ideal.

The outcome of Belgium's qualifier against Andorra wasn't ever going to be in doubt of course, despite Jan Vertonghen's best efforts to Spurs it up by giving away a silly penalty kick to let the hosts back into the match at 2-1.  But then Hazard scored and Belgium went in search for even more, eventually running out 4-1 winners.  With the three points, they have finally booked their place at next summer's tournament in France.

Elsewhere in the group, Bosnia, with Asmir Begovic in goal, managed a nice 2-0 victory over Wales.  Combined with Israel's shock defeat against Cyprus, both countries remain in the hunt for the final playoff spot.  Their fates will come down to Tuesday's round of matches, but while Israel have to travel to Belgium, Bosnia only have to beat Cyprus.  So still a good chance for Begovic to make it to Euro 2016 as well.

Meanwhile, Tomas Kalas went an unused substitute as the Czech Republic (without Petr Cech in goal) lost 2-0 at home to Turkey.  The Czechs had already booked their ticket to Euro 2016, while Turkey's win keeps them in the hunt for the final playoff spot alongside the Netherlands.  Their fates will come down to the last round of matches as well.
