After yesterday's 45 minutes of not good enough play and 45 minutes of good enough play gave Chelsea a 3-0 win over Watford in the third round of the FA Cup, we now get to find out who our opponents will be in the next round. So cue the balls of fate and the random football celebrities whose hands shall decide said fate. (In today's case, those hands belonged to Wimbledon legend Lawrie Sanchez.)
The draw, in full:
Southampton/Ipswich Town vs. Crystal Palace
Cambridge United vs. Manchester United
Blackburn Rovers vs. Swansea City
CHELSEA vs. MILLWALL/BRADFORD CITY
Derby County vs. Scunthorpe United/Chesterfield
Preston North End vs. Sheffield United
Birmingham City vs. West Bromwich Albion
Aston Villa vs. AFC Bournemouth
Cardiff City vs. Reading
AFC Wimbledon/Liverpool vs. Bolton Wanderers
Burnley/Tottenham Hotspur vs. Leicester City
Brighton & Hove Albion vs. Arsenal
Rochdale vs. Stoke City
Sunderland vs. Fulham/Wolverhaptom Wanderers
Doncaster Rovers/Bristol City vs. Everton/West Ham United
Manchester City vs. Middlesbrough
The fourth round is set to played the weekend of January 24th, so we'll have three Cup matches in a row -- League Cup semifinal first leg against Liverpool (away) on Tuesday the 20th, then the FA Cup fourth round match, and then the second leg of the League Cup semifinal -- before facing Manchester City in a crucial Premier League showdown at Stamford Bridge on the final weekend of January.
Millwall would be a juicy, old-school London derby, indeed (their third round replay against Bradford City is scheduled for the 14th). Meanwhile, Cobham North (i.e. Middlesbrough) get to take on Manchester City, which could be a most fun upset.
