STUART SCOTT (1965-2015):
There is a generation of sport fans in America, I'd say my generation or thereabout, who were in high school or college in the mid-to-late '90s and grew up watching Sportscenter every day on TV. This was back when ESPN was the disruptive force in the sports world, the young, hip, loud, flashy center of the sports world. And Sportscenter was the loudest and flashiest of them all, with highlights and fun and news and even knowledge all packed into a rapid-fire show. And Stuart Scott was the loudest and flashiest of anybody on there. He, more so than any other anchor on the show, became part of the highlight. It wasn't everybody's style and not everybody adored him, but he was a game-changer when it came to sports coverage on television. He died Sunday morning after his appendix cancer came back for the second time. He was 49. Way too young.
