Chelsea's second Champions League match has started in much the same manner as their first one did, with the Blues firmly in control the game, yet failing to convert clear cut chance after clear cut chance. It took just over half an hour before Chelsea finally managed to find the back of the net with one of their attempts, and sure enough, it was former Benfica standout Nemanja Matic who placed a perfect header beyond the keeper.
In fairness to Chelsea's attackers, Sporting have been the beneficiary of some absolutely sensational work in goal. Both Diego Costa and Andre Schurrle probably both should have scored when free on goal anyway, but both attempts still required excellent saves to keep out of the back of the net.
With Schalke currently trailing against the group's weakest side, Chelsea are finding themselves in great shape to take control of the group just 45 minutes from now. Let's just hope we do a much better job of closing out the match this time.
