Vitesse Arnhem is auctioning off game-worn special British 1st Airborne kits

Clint Hughes

Vitesse Arnhem is auctioning off the game-worn kits honouring the British 1st Airborne and worn by the players during the Airborne Memorial match against Heerenveen last week. Since there are only eighteen players on the team sheet, there are, of course, only eighteen shirts available.

As we've covered previously, both the club and the city of Arnhem still actively honour the service and sacrifice of the British 1st Airborne during the Battle of Arnhem.

The special kit reflects the claret and blue colours of the 1st Airborne, and includes a lot of very nice details.

The auction runs through the end of the day tomorrow, and if you're interested in bidding, you can head over to Vitesse's website. Keep in mind that the website is in Dutch, and you can find the English translation here.

The proceeds from the auction will go towards future Airborne commemorations. I have my eye on Wallace's shirt, and as the proceeds go towards an excellent cause, I'll very much look forward to a bidding war.
