It's the 89th minute and your team is tied away against the worst side in the Bundesliga. You are taking a 40-yard free kick. Do you a) do the sane thing and loft in a ball for your set piece specialists to chase, or b) try for a wonder-strike?
If you are Lucas Piazon, you go for option b. And it turns out there's a good reason for that.
A few important bullet points:
- I don't think I've ever seen a free kick from that sort of range freeze the goalkeeper like that. The pace and bend were absolutely perfect to drop it into the top corner. He could not have hit this any better.
- Piazon will spend the rest of his career trying to replicate this goal and he simply won't be able to. You can't touch the face of God twice in a lifetime. Lucky that he managed it once at all.
- The way the ball bounces out is awesome.
