Drogba not available for Schalke match

Clive Brunskill

According to the Guardian, Didier Drogba will be unavailable for Chelsea's first Champions League match of the season. The striker, whose final kick in the competition his first time around with the club made Manny Neuer and a gaggle of Germans very sad ...

... oh fine, we'll watch it again. But only because you asked nicely.

Now where were we? Right. Schalke. Drogba will miss the match as he 'continues rehabilitation from an ankle injury'. Those of you with better memories will recall that the striker was struggling with an ankle problem at the start of the season, and barring any further information it's not difficult to connect the dots.

At any rate, although it would have been nice to have Drogba available to face the Germans, with Loïc Rémy backing up Diego Costa I'm not too worried about the striker situations. Give Rémy his first start, let Costa come in if the going gets tough, see off Schalke and get ready for the big game against Manchester City this weekend.

Having confidence in our strikers is weird.
