Chelsea to face Bolton Wanderers in Round 3 of the Capital One Cup

Alan Crowhurst

The third round of the Capital One Cup sees the last seven Premier League teams enter the competition as well.  These are the seven teams who had qualified for European competition last season (so including Hull City but not Manchester United).  They join the 25 survivors of the second round (so including Bradford City but not Manchester United).

Anyway, enter Chelsea, drawn against Championship side Bolton Wanderers who narrowly beat League One Crewe Alexandra in extra time.

The third round draw in full:

Chelsea vs. Bolton Wanderers
Arsenal vs. Southampton
West Bromwich Albion vs. Hull City
Crystal Palace vs. Newcastle United
Leyton Orient vs. Sheffield United
Cardiff City vs. AFC Bournemouth
Derby County vs. Reading
Liverpool vs. Middlesborough
MK Dons vs. Bradford City
Manchester City vs. Sheffield Wednesday
Burton Albion vs. Brighton & Hove Albion
Swansea City vs. Everton
Shrewsbury vs. Norwich City
Fulham vs. Doncaster Rovers
Tottenham Hotspur vs. Nottingham Forest
Sunderland vs. Stoke City

The single-elimination matches will be played the week of September 22.  Jose Mourinho famously won this competition as his first trophy in England, and while the club's stature has grown by leaps and bounds since then, it still wouldn't go amiss to add it back into the collection for the first time since 2007.
