In this morning's pre-Leicester press conference, Jose Mourinho was asked about the Petr Cech/Thibaut Courtois situation, and how the veteran Chelsea keeper was reacting to becoming the second option. Mourinho had nothing but praise in his comments about Cech, but did note that the player isn't totally happy at the moment. Here's what he had to say:
'He's a top professional, working as always, he is a Chelsea person. I don't believe he's totally happy, but that's him.'
'It's hard because at the moment it's one match a week. But in September there's the Capital One Cup, Champions League and Premier League, there will be rotation so everyone feels better. Petr's behaviour is fantastic'
It's hard to find fault with Cech, as he's still one of the truly elite goalkeepers on the planet. I'm sure he'd love to play, and in a perfect world we'd have enough fixtures to get both keepers plenty of minutes.
That said, this situation seems likely to add fuel to the Cech departure fire as the window approaches a close, as Chelsea still need to jettison an international player or leave someone out of the registered squad. While we might not see many legitimate rumors linking players to joining Chelsea this week, there will be more than a fair amount written about potential departures. Hooray.
