Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo had some comments several weeks ago that had Chelsea fans hoping Fernando Torres was heading for the exits, but on Friday, he poured a bit of cold water on that idea:
'Many names have been mentioned, but none of those players, neither Cazorla, Callejon, Torres nor Chicharito (Hernandez) are on our agenda,' Cerezo told Radio Marca. 'If we sign another player, it won't be any of them.'
While Atletico bringing Torres back at anything near his current wage was always wishful thinking, the transfer of Romalu Lukaku to Everton means that Chelsea have an actual need for his services now as well. It's not surprising that Torres won't be joining Atleti this summer, one can only hope that maybe it's an easier move to facilitate in a year.
Cerezo also had some comments about Chelsea's (supposed) newest target, Joao Miranda:
'I know nothing about that at all, and if I haven't heard about it it's because he's going to stay, I'm almost certain of that.'
If he's to be believed here, Miranda will be remaining with the La Liga champions for the 2014/15 season. There's probably less reason to believe the Atletico president in this regard, as he'd clearly have an agenda if the player was close to leaving the club, but the comments are worth noting nonetheless.
Regardless of whether or not Miranda is coming or not though, it looks like Torres is staying. Surprise, surprise...
