Lukaku training with Anderlecht ahead of Chelsea return

Matthias Hangst

Romelu Lukaku is often a bit of a hot topic among Chelsea fans. The Belgian has limitless raw talent and has managed to produce in two separate Premier League loans, but the straightforward nature of many comments that he's made has rubbed many fans the wrong way. Hopefully his actions this preseason will win many of those fans back, and it looks as if he's working hard to make his preseason a successful one.

Lukaku isn't due back from Chelsea quite yet due to his extended participation in the World Cup, so it's excellent to see that he's already working on his fitness with his boyhood club. That allows him to get ready to impress Jose Mourinho (or potential suitors, I suppose) while still spending some quality time with his family, a luxury he won't often have during his professional career*.

*Don't be one of those people screaming things like "tells you all you need to know about him", because that's ridiculously malicious.

While one hopes Lukaku is enjoying his downtime, I'm personally thrilled that he won't be too far behind players like Diego Costa and Fernando Torres in terms of fitness when he meets up with the squad. This summer might be the best opportunity he ever has to seize a major role with one of Europe's top clubs, all he has to do is earn it.
