Chelsea have some sorting out to do with the glut of goaltenders they have (or who are interested in returning next season, despite the glut already there), and on Thursday they made an announcement that they've agreed to an extension with one of that group. Jamal Blackman will now be under contract with his boyhood club until the end of the 2018/19 season.
Blackman spent last season hanging out with Henrique Hilario at Chelsea, and assuming Chelsea bring back Mark Schwarzer again as he's hoping, will probably spend most of next season doing nothing but training and watching from the stands as well. At 20 years old, he's still eligible to play for the U21 side, and will not take up an FA roster spot to keep around.
A loan is also possible, especially if the rumored Cech/Courtois competition eventually comes to be. With that pair as our top two keepers, there probably isn't any reason to keep the kid at the club that he's unlikely to even dress for.
