Did he not get the memo?
It quite clearly stated on official club letterhead that the players were to reconvene in two months' time not at the Vicente Calderón but at Stamford Bridge. It said no exceptions! Even if you got a doctor's note or a sick puppy at home. Who does he think he is, to flaunt the club rules so publicly!? Does he think that wearing the captain's armband for Uruguay gives him the power to just ignore official club memos on official club letterheads?
Diego Godin will not be following any of his Atletico Madrid team-mates to Chelsea after expressing his continued commitment to the La Liga club.
Several of Diego Simeone's men - namely Diego Costa, Filipe Luis and Tiago - are expected to move to Stamford Bridge later this summer, while goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who has spent the past three years on loan at Atletico, will start next season in west London.
And Chelsea are also long-term admirers of centre-back Godin, who played a starring role in Atletico's La Liga title success and run to the Champions League final last term.
However, Spanish newspaper AS report that the 28-year-old has already told Atletico that he does not intend to leave the club this summer.
And so it has come to pass that on the 23rd day of the month of Juno, two days after the summer solstice and the night before all Icelanders bathe naked in the morning dew (thanks Wikipedia!), an Atlético Madrid player does NOT want to come to Chelsea.
Off with his head!
