Mourinho expects Fabregas to contribute straight away

David Ramos

Jose Mourinho's latest quotes regarding Chelsea's newest signing are making a few appearances under the headlines of Fabregas being a "perfect signing," but it turns out Mourinho didn't quite go that far in his assessment of the 27-year-old Spaniard.

"He is the kind of player we [Chelsea] need.  Not just for his qualities as a player but also his competitive personality."

Well, we all know how much Mourinho likes his winners.  If he sees Cesc Fabregas as a winner, as someone who already comes with that cut-throat winning mentality that we've often lacked last season, then I can finally start understanding this signing a bit better.

With Spain already assured of going home early from the World Cup, Fabregas (and Diego Costa) will get plenty of rest before the season.  He's going to need it as well, as he'll be expected to contribute straight away.  No pressure now, Cesc!

"He is a player in the best years of his career - 26, 27, 28. He knows England well, he knows the Premiership well, so he will not need time to adapt.  I think he is the kind of player who will come and train for a couple of weeks and be ready to prove himself."

So say we all.
