World Cup, Group F from the Chelsea angle: Players to watch

For the next month, much of the world will be wrapped up in the World Cup. Here are some players to keep an eye on from Group F.

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

ARGENTINA

Jun. 15:  vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina
Jun. 21:  vs. Iran
Jun. 25:  vs. Nigeria

Chelsea players: none

Potential transfer targets: This is a surprisingly veteran Argentina squad (only two players 25 and under), so not nearly as many as one would think.  Forwards Gonzalo Higuain and Ezequiel Lavezzi have both been linked with Chelsea recently, though are unlikely to become anything more than random transfer rumor fodder.  Center back Ezequiel Garay, while 27 already, may yet make the long-awaited move into one of the big leagues from Portugal.

Others: Basically anybody not playing defense or goalkeeper.  Angel Di Maria was one of Europe's best players this past season.  And we all know about Aguero and Messi.

BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

Jun. 15:  vs. Argentina
Jun. 21:  vs. Nigeria
Jun. 25:  vs. Iran

Chelsea players: none

Potential transfer targets: Lazio's Senad Lulic popped up quite randomly as a rumored Chelsea transfer target last summer, while cross-town rival Miralem Pjanic is often bandied about as a potential midfield signing.

Others: We're all familiar with lamppost Edin Dzeko, who has a knack for scoring big goals at opportune moments, and Asmir Begovic who may be one of the better keepers at the tournament. We might be less familiar with Muhamed Besic, who at 21 is the second youngest player in the squad and was one of the best players in the Hungarian League this past season (that's not saying much, in fairness).  He's been linked with Juventus and BVB, among others, and has a chance to really shine in a holding, supporting midfield role.

IRAN

Jun. 16:  vs. Nigeria
Jun. 21:  vs. Argentina
Jun. 25:  vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina

Chelsea players: none

Potential transfer targets: none

Others: Ashkan Dejagah scored a few sweet goals for Fulham this season.

NIGERIA

Jun. 15:  vs. Iran
Jun. 21:  vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina
Jun. 25:  vs. Argentina

Chelsea players: Mikel (59), Victor Moses (22), Kenneth Omeruo (17)

Potential transfer targets: Forward Ahmed Musa has world class speed and after four full seasons as a professional, is still just 21.

Others: Emmanuel Emenike has been known more for the various controversies that have followed him around, but he had a decent season for Fenerbahce.  Young Ogenyi Onazi is an emerging midfield talent who's staked a regular claim in Lazio's midfield.
