BEASTMODE: Nemanja Matic didn't take long to join the ranks of Chelsea cult heroes

Shaun Botterill

Careful what you might say, Nemanja Matic may be reading.  And you wouldn't want to anger the 6'4" BEAST of UB, now would you?

As the April issue of Chelsea FC Magazine reminds us, Matic is not the first Serbian to become a Chelsea favorite, though he's easily the fastest as he joins madman Petar Borota and Two-goal ManBearLove Ivanovic in the annals of our cult heroes.  In just his second start for Chelsea, 25-year-old Matic went up against Yaya Touré, and emerged not only with a win but, more importantly, with near-universal acclaim.

"I saw something on the internet, which said this about me.  It's very nice if the people think this about me because [Beast] would be a good nickname to have.  I have to be like this because I play in a position where you have to be the beast!"

To Benfica fans, Matic was the Spider due to his long legs, tremendous reach, and surprising agility.  And while he's appreciated that nickname as well, I look forward to many years of BEASTMODE in our center midfield.
