Chelsea fullback loaned to FC Eindhoven for the remainder of the season

The Chilean fullback won't need to displace Patrick van Aanholt to play anymore

One of the loan moves expected before the transfer deadline closed was finally announced on Friday, as Cristian Cuevas has left Vitesse Arnhem to join FC Eindhoven for the remainder of the 2013/14 season:

Immediately, the 18-year-old Chilean international Cristián Cuevas will officially join the selection of FC Eindhoven. The left back, who last week already meetrainde, is on loan until the end of the current season for FC Eindhoven.

Cuevas is a left back that can also play more advanced positions on that flank, but the presence of Patrick van Aanholt and Lucas Piazon at Vitesse did a pretty good job of ensuring his minutes would be coming with the reserves. FC Eindhoven will provide a temporary home where he'll see quite a bit of time immediately, hopefully showing us some of the form he displayed in Chile.

I wouldn't rule out a Cuevas return to VItesse next season, as there seems very little chance that Patrick van Aanholt is back. I'd have to think that PvA will either be with Chelsea next season, or he'll be transferred permanently this summer, leaving the Arnhem side to fill a hole at left back either way. If Cuevas impresses in the second division, there's little reason to believe he won't be given the chance to fill that hole.
