John Terry, Gary Cahill, and Cesar Azpilicueta could all be getting extensions

Since Mourinho returned, the defense has improved considerably. It makes some sense to keep them all together.

The Telegraph and The Daily Mail have both written about a trio of Chelsea players who might be looking at contract extensions soon. First up, we've got The Telegraph, who wrote the following about Gary Cahill:

Chelsea are now ready to offer Cahill a pay rise to take the 28-year-old into the next band of earners on around £100,000 a week and add up to two more years on to his contract.

A year ago, I think most of us would have fallen out of our seats laughing at this suggestion. The improvement Cahill has shown under Jose Mourinho has been remarkable though, and that figure no longer seems ridiculous.

Next up, they wrote about Cesar Azpilicueta:

Azpilicueta is thought to be earning less than Chelsea youngsters Josh McEachran and Nathaniel Chalobah, who are both out on loan.

As recognition for his growing standing in the club, the 24-year-old Azpilicueta could be offered a double-your-money rise to around £60,000 a week and have his contract extended past 2017.

This should have been done yesterday. Cesar Azpilicueta might provide more bang for our buck than any player in the Premier League at the moment, reinforcing just how brilliant a signing he turned out to be.

Finally we've got The Mail, who had an update on John Terry:

John Terry is ready to accept a one-year contract at Chelsea if it means prolonging his playing career at Stamford Bridge. The club captain, showing some of the best form of his career, comes to the end of his current five-year, £150,000-a-week deal in June.

If true, I can't imagine it will be too long before we here news of an extension. Terry has been good enough that he won't require a massive pay cut to justify keeping, especially on a one-year deal.
