Ryan Bertrand has been very good since joining Aston Villa on loan, and manager Paul Lambert has been impressed. He had the following to say about the loanee earlier on Tuesday:
"It's just a loan the way it stands but you'd never think the boy was only on loan the way he's settled in and the way he's played. He's been absolutely fantastic, he's a terrific guy and I'm delighted with him."
"Ryan's earned the right to have a value, whatever that may be, because of what he's done. Whatever Chelsea price him at, that's their prerogative but we're thankful they gave us that opportunity to let him come here."
It's great that Bertrand has managed to settle in so quickly, and immediately start performing at such a high level. I don't think there was ever much doubt that he'd quickly displace Antonio Luna.
Replacing Luna does make me a bit sad, however, as the player tended to be caught out of position regularly enough that he was frequently mentioned by the commentator. As my dog also happens to go by the name of Luna, the confused looks on her face when the magic picture box started kept mentioning her name was easily my favorite part of watching Aston Villa. I'll miss that, probably more than I should admit.
Regardless, Bertrand's early showings are certainly raising eyebrows in London. Whether or not his future lies with Chelsea, or at another club, playing regularly and playing well can't hurt. Keep it up, Ryan.
