Report: Tomas Kalas will return early from Cologne to be loaned to QPR instead

There are no ifs, ands, or buts about it, Tomas Kalas's loan to 1.FC Koln has been an unmitigated disaster.  The 21-year-old defender, impressive in very limited minutes for Chelsea last season, was the first player to head out on loan this summer, presumably signifying just how strongly the club felt that Cologne would be an ideal placement for him.  After a grand total of zero minutes of competitive action (plus two games for Cologne's reserve side in the fourth tier), it's turned out to be nothing of the sort.

Understandably, rumors were already flying in November that the initial year-long loan would be cut short in January; today's report from kicker only further confirms what is sure to be an inevitability.  There's absolutely no reason whatsoever for Kalas to stick around at one of the worst teams in the Bundesliga.

Instead, it would appear that he'll be switching over to one of the worst teams in the Premier League!

"We have been negotiating the situation surrounding Tomas Kalas and there are a number of options from the United Kingdom and the Netherlands."

"One of them indeed is Queens Park Rangers. We want Tomas to play regularly and would like to have his future sorted out before the start of the transfer window, so that the matter is concluded to the satisfaction of all parties concerned."

Local rivals or not, a loan in the Premier League will be ideal.  If he gets to play, of course.
