While many Chelsea fans weren't overly pleased with the Chelsea performance this past weekend, Gary Cahill took some positives away from the draw at the Stadium of Light:
"I think we are a different side to last year, not just personnel, but mentally I think we are different. They made it a scrap, but we matched that and managed to play our football as well."
"When teams sit back and get back in that shape, it's very tough. We saw that last year and this was no different. But in these sorts of games, if you don't get the breakthrough, it's important we don't lose the game, and it's a point away from home."
A point is certainly better than none, even if it's still a disappointing result. That said, the passing and movement in these types of games has to be far better to see improved results as well as an 'improved mentality'.
As the season progresses and team fighting relegation become desperate for those points, we'll likely face this sort of defensive approach more often than we have thus far. Hopefully we can continue to keep things tight at the back, while putting a few balls in the net as well.
