André Schürrle's had a rough few months. Actually, it's been a fairly rough season for one of Chelsea's fan favorites and one of Germany's World Cup heroes.
It all started out gloriously, with a goal of the season candidate in the season opener against Burnley that also introduced Cesc Fàbregas back into the Premier League. And then... well, then followed a slow decline into trying too hard. Too many wayward shots, too many silly decisions, though his goal against Manchester City was a reminder that the real André Schürrle was still in there somewhere. Then came the injuries and some unspecified illness that sapped him further of energy, fitness, and probably some confidence as well.
Wednesday's start was just his third in two months. Unsurprisingly, transfer rumors had already started swirling, linking him back to various teams in Germany. And while nothing is for certain in this business, André's doesn't think he's going anywhere anytime soon.
"Of course I can just laugh all the talk of leaving off. I am not going to change the club in the transfer window."
"I am happy where I am, I am happy in London. I love the city, I love the fans. We have a great team and want to win something this season. This is where I belong and where I want to help. I know what the manager wants for me and that he likes me."
