So that was all sorts of awful for a good while, though once Chelsea came to grips with the 3-5-2 (hello, darkness, our old friend), we looked purposeful and dangerous. Oscar probably should've had a penalty. Diego Costa missed an easy chance. And then Matic thumped home the second ball on the corner and it was all good.
Diego Costa also had a perfectly good goal then ruled out for offside. And then there was excitement towards the end at both ends and Maribor remained "spirited" and all sorts of spunky throughout, but it all came to naught for the hosts eventually as Eden Hazard (who else?) won and
converted the winning penalty once again HE MISSED AND THE APOCALYPSE IS NIGH.
A couple additional quick thoughts:
- Thank you, 11-year-old Zahovic for missing from about three yards out that would've made it 2-0 Maribor. On a related note, Branislav Ivanovic is not a left-sided anything.
- 10 shots on target (21 total). 1 goal. Need to do better than that.
- Linesman needs new eyes.
- Eden Hazard is awesome. Despite his second ever missed penalty for Chelsea.
- Job done(-ish). No sweat. Still unbeaten in 16. Onto the big one this weekend.
