While some of Chelsea's loans haven't been going too well -- see John Swift at Rotherham, for instance -- the same definitely can't be said of Patrick Bamford at Middlesbrough. He's fighting his way into Aitor Karanka's side and scoring some important goals in the process, and that makes him a very happy striker. In fact, he's now hoping to extend his stay in Teesside:
At the moment, I'm only here until the New Year, but I'm keen to stay. I like it here, I like the manager. He believes in me, which is important, so I don't think there's any reason for me to go back.

Stability is probably the most important thing for loanees. Once they find a situation in which they can grow, keeping them there for as long as possible is far better than pushing them to a new team where they might not click, even if it is a step up in terms of challenge. That Bamford is comfortable and happy at Middlesbrough is good news for everyone involved. Let's hope that he gets to stay and set the Championship aflame in the second half of the season.
