Sergio Ramos made some pretty silly comments to the media about the injured Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa remaining at Chelsea for the last international break. Forget that Spain was playing a meaningless game against Germany and a laughably easy qualifier, the red card prone center back felt that it was his place to speak for the Spanish squad.
Cesc Fabregas noted on Wednesday that he was offended by Ramos being Ramos, and that he called the Real Madrid defender to let him know:
I told Ramos at the time that if he has something to say to me then he should pick up the phone and call and not send messages via the media.
Yes, I felt offended, and told Sergio how I felt. We eventually spoke on the phone and all is fine. It really irked me that my level of commitment was doubted. I’ve played many times and been involved in call-ups without playing.
I’ve played 94 games for Spain over the past nine years and have always shown up… always and always in good faith.
Something tells me that Diego Costa wasn't so easily pacified...
