Chelsea midfielder could join Ipswich Town on loan

The deadline for lower division sides to sign players on loan before the January window opens is Thursday evening, and John Swift could be making a move to Ipswich Town before that window closes. The young Chelsea midfielder has spent the past few days training with Mick McCarthy's side, prompting speculation that an announcement could be forthcoming.

If a move does come to fruition, it will be of the short-term variety, as a 93-day loan is the maximum allowed during the emergency loan window. Most likely, we'd be looking at a loan lasting until mid-January, at which point his status would be reevaluated.

Ipswich are currently flying high in the Championship, sitting in fourth place on 31 points from their first 18 contests. It would be pretty surprising if Swift waled right into the Ipswich starting lineup, more likely he'd just be additional quality on the bench for McCarthy to choose from.
