The Daily Hilario: End of useful video games life

Your daily dose of off-topic shenanigans.

VETERANS DAY:

I believe my trusty ol' veteran MacBook Pro (late 2008) has reached the end of its useful life, at least when it comes to playing video games.  And I don't even mean graphically intensive video games (at least what qualifies nowadays as graphically intensive).  It chugs along on low res and low quality for Diablo III.  Football Manager 3D match engine?  Forget about it.  (Not that I'd ever use it, but you know...)  All the RAM and SSD upgrades won't make up for the aging CPU and the wholly inadequate graphics card.  The final stroke was the beta of Massive Chalice, a game I backed on Kickstarter.  I think it was decently playable at 800x600 resolution.

Last weekend, the wife and I took advantage of a trade-in promotion at Best Buy and upgraded our iPad (2nd Gen.) to an iPad Air 2.  When the card game Hearthstone runs faster, smoother, and in much higher quality on a tablet than the laptop (even if we allow for optimized code, etc.), you know it's time to retire the latter to browsing and blogging duties.  Which is what it's been doing 90% of the time anyway, so it's not a huge loss.  But now it's official.  At least we still have OpenTTD when nostalgia strikes.
