Chelsea's win against Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday wasn't easy watching, but it was good enough to secure a place in the League Cup quarterfinals. And after the end of play on Wednesday, we now know who'll we'll be facing for a spot in the semifinals: Derby County.
Derby were very nearly in the Premier League this season but lost their playoff final against QPR, and since we've been drawn as the away side we shouldn't take them too lightly. We should still be confident of going through, however -- we're very much the favourites against basically everyone left in the tournament.
Chelsea actually faced the Rams in a cup game last season, seeing them off 2-0 in the third round of the FA Cup (John Obi Mikel scored a goal), and another performance like that will see us through to the semifinals. The quarterfinals are where we ended up getting knocked out in this competition last year, losing in extra time at Sunderland. Let's hope that we can beat that this time around.
Anyway, the full draw is as follows:
Derby County vs. Chelsea
Tottenham Hotspur vs. Newcastle United
Bournemouth vs. Liverpool
Sheffield United vs. Southampton.
Games will be in mid-December.
