We've long known that Didier Drogba's legacy extends well beyond football, and the veteran striker has added to that with a generous donation to help underprivileged children in his home country go to school. The Drogba Foundation will distribute 5,000 school kits -- which, according to SuperSport, contain "note and text books, bags, writing materials, mathematics sets, water bottles and toiletries" -- to selected families in the Ivory Coast, which I think we can all agree is a pretty good way of spending money.
Drogba's influence in his home country is enormous, and although he was often painted as an unsavoury character on the pitch (in his first go-around at the club, anyway), it's beyond clear what a fantastic human he is off it. Using footballing success to help educate his fellow citizens, building hospitals and schools ... well, we talk too much about heroes in this sport, but Didier Drogba is the real deal.
