Welcome to the latest update (July 2015) of the WAGNH Chelsea player wage database.
We've completely revamped the layout in an effort to provide a comprehensive picture of Chelsea's financial fair play liabilities with regards to player costs. While financial fair play is likely never going to be a problem for Chelsea, it has become increasingly important to understand how player costs are calculated, as clubs cannot spend more than they earn. As such, financial fair play has essentially created a soft wage cap on clubs, which is determined by how much revenue that club brings in. This database shows how Chelsea has allocated its significant, but finite resources in an interactive and accessible format.
We've tried to include every player who has been part of the club during the financial fair play era and show exactly how much he has cost the club on the financial fair play books.
Simply viewing player costs in terms of transfer fees is insufficient, as financial fair play accounting mandates that we look at the player's annual cost, which is calculated by adding his amortised transfer fee to his annual wage. Contract length and wages are just as important as the transfer fee. For example, the transfer fees for Kurt Zouma (£14.5m) and Filipe Luis (£15.8m) are very similar, but Luis costs twice as much as Zouma on an annual basis.
In addition, for the vast majority of transactions the club has made during the past two transfer windows (purchases, sales, and even loans), we have written detailed financial analyses, which can be accessed by following the links included in the player's infobox next to his name.
Finally there is a key which can be accessed in the top left corner of the screen.

Everton paid 100 percent of Lukaku's wages in addition to a £2m loan fee in 2013-14 .He was sold to Everton in July 2014 for £28m. De Bruyne was sold to Wolfsburg in January 2014 for £16.7m. The £10.84m profit reflects the transfer fee less the book value (£5.08m) and wages already paid during 2013-14 season (£780k). More. |

Anelka, Nicolas info
Anelka originally signed a 3 year deal after coming over from Bolton in January 2008. However, he signed a one year extension in 2010. Due to the extension, I conservatively estimated the "book value" on his transfer fee at £5m. Anelka left for Shanghai Shenhua on a free in January 2012. |

Malouda, Florent info
Malouda originally signed a 4 year deal after coming over from Lyon in July 2007. He signed a a 2 year extension in 2009 (essentially signing a new 4 year deal). Since Malouda's transfer fee had a "book value" of ~£6.8m when he signed the 2009 extension, the transfer fee was written down to £1.7m per year for FFP accounting. |

Rajkovic, Slobodan info
Rajkovic signed a 3 year deal after coming over from OFK Beograd in 2006. He signed a new 5 year deal in 2007. Due to the extension, I conservatively estimate the 2011-2012 book value on his transfer fee at £610,000. Chelsea received a £1.7m transfer fee from Hamburger SV in August 2011. Given the oustanding book value on the transfer fee that brought Rajkovic from OFK Beograd, Chelsea was left with a net income of £1.09m. |

Kalou, Salomon info
Kalou originally signed a 3 year deal after coming over from Feyenoord in June 2006. He signed a 3 year extension in 2009. Note that the amortised transfer fee is not exactly £0, but it is most likely well under £100,000 because the "book value" on his transfer fee is so low given his tenure at Chelsea. Kalou left on a free in July 2012. |

Ferreira, Paulo info
Ferreira renegotiated his contract several times since first coming over from Porto in July 2004. Alex info
Alex renegotiated his contract several times since first coming over from Santos in 2004. Note that the amortised transfer fee is not exactly £0, but it is most likely well under £100,000 because the "book value" on Alex's transfer fee is so low given his tenure at Chelsea. Chelsea received a £4.2m transfer fee from PSG in January 2012. Since there was no oustanding book value on the transfer fee that brought Alex from Santos, Chelsea was left with a net profit of £4.2m |
