With Nemanja Matic secured, Chelsea's greatest weakness is in their centre forwards. The trio of Demba Ba, Samuel Eto'o and Fernando Torres are, simply put, not good enough to win Premier Leagues or Champions Leagues, and the expectations at the club is that they actually be competitive in those competitions. Although Jose Mourinho's getting a transition year now, he knows that we'll have to be more ambitious next season, and for that he needs a reliable ace up front.
So why not buy now, as many were expecting? Well, finding good strikers in the January transfer window without paying well over the odds is exceptionally difficult... and also Chelsea have some sort of grand plan to blow us out of the water in summer.
Mourinho on buying a striker. "Many people don't understand why we don't do [business] but, in the summer, you will understand."

Mourinho says no striker deal yet lined up for summer but "we know what we want".

Which all sounds rather exciting. Who do we think it'll be?
