Should Chelsea be after Luke Shaw?

Mike Hewitt

As we enter the final couple of days of the January transfer window, I'd guess that most of the attention, Chelsea-wise, will be on a pair of young defenders. We've talked a lot about St. Etienne centre half Kurt Zouma, but less about Luke Shaw, who's obviously a much bigger name. Shaw has spent the last two seasons behind painted as England's left back of the future, has been linked to the Premier League's biggest clubs and is also a Chelsea supporter.

The papers are currently throwing around some eye-popping figures for the Southampton starlet (the Mirror is claiming that Manchester United have already submitted a £22 million bid), so any move isn't going to come cheap. It'd also block both Patrick van Aanholt and Ryan Bertrand, two young players who've been with Chelsea for some time and currently look more than capable of competing at the Premier League level.

It looks likely that wherever Shaw ends up, Chelsea will be involved. But before we start digging deeper on this, a question for the community: On a scale of 1-5 (five highest), how highly do you think the club should prioritise a chase for Luke Shaw, either now or in the summer?
