Mata set for Manchester United medical today

Dean Mouhtaropoulos

Multiple reports have Juan Mata set to travel/already travelling to Carrington to take his medical at Manchester United ahead of a £37 million move today. This move has gone from 'huh?' to 'wow, this is actually happening' astonishingly quickly, and it looks as though it could be official as early as this afternoon.

There's certainly no reason to doubt that he is indeed set for a medical; virtually everyone is reporting it and the media seems to have had this transfer nailed down from the beginning.

Today, then, might mark Mata's final hours as a Chelsea player. Embrace them. No matter how we feel about the deal, looking back at his two and a half years at Stamford Bridge will always bring a smile to our faces. He's a great player and a great guy, and will never be forgotten in these parts, even if the team is moving on and indeed thriving without his influence.

Godspeed, Johnny Kills.
